Our aim is to to meet the needs of all our guests but the situation of the cottages might prove difficult for people with limited mobility.
Both cottages cottages are enclosed by dry stone walls. Each cottage has a small wooden farm gate into the cottage from the car parking area. There is a dry stone wall dividing the two cottage garden with a small wooden farm gate for access to each cottage if needed.
Our gardens are suitable for guests staying with dogs.
Small children must be supervised at all times.
Shippon Cottage has a gravel path leading from the car parking area and there are three stone steps down to the front door. The front door is slightly raised from the graveled area of approx. 250mm.
The Old Diary has a gravel path leading from the car parking area and there is a small step up of approx. 250mm to the front door.
The cottages are electric, and the heating is fuelled by a biomass boiler. There is a log burning stove in each cottage with a fire guard for each stove.
In the event of a power cut, torches are supplied and we will contact you and help any way we can.
Arrival and Car Parking Facilities Parking for both cottages is at the front of the cottages and at the end of the gardens. The parking area is graveled. There is ample parking.
Outdoor Facilities Shippon Cottage has a gravel path leading from the car parking area and there are three stone steps down to the front door.
Shippon Cottage has a small recessed patio area with table, chairs and BBQ area. There is a small stone wall approximately 0.6 meters high.
The Old Diary has a gravel path leading from the car parking area and there are no steps to the front door. The garden is of good size and flat.
There is a graveled patio area with a table and bench seating. There is also a BBQ.
Opposite the cottages is a large lawned area, which guests are more than welcome to use. Children must be supervised at all times.
The fields surrounds the farm are not accessible for guests other than along the public footpaths.
The courtyard at the back of the cottages is strictly private unless there are guests staying in the Brosterfield Suite.
Driving through the courtyard is strictly forbidden, unless staying in The Brosterfield Suite.
THE OLD DIARY Downstairs
There is a large open plan room which comprises of an entrance area, kitchen area, sitting area and dining area.
There is a small utility room on the ground floor. This contains a tall free standing fridge freezer, a run of kitchen base cupboards and wall units.
There is a free standing washing machine located under the work top.
There is a free standing microwave on top of the work top.
There is a double window.
There is a ceiling mounted clothes drying unit.
There is small cupboard underneath the stairs which houses the boiler and a blanket box.
The kitchen and utility flooring is travertine tiles.
The entrance area, dining area and sitting area is oak laminate flooring.
There is underfloor heating throughout the downstairs.
Dining Area:There is an extending dining table with six chairs.
This can be extended to eight by an additional leaf.
Extra chairs can be provided.
Sitting Area: There are two sofas.
There are two free standing easy chairs.
There is a chest which houses a 26” Flatscreen LCD TV, with a freesat box and dvd on top.
There is a log burning stove in the living area , which sits on a stone flag.
A large mesh fire surround is provided and log basket with protective heat gloves.
There are two small occasional tables with table lamps on and a large wall mounted mirrors in the sitting area.
Kitchen Area: There is a an integrated slim lined dishwasher, pot sink with wooden drainer & double range oven with ceramic top with 5 heating areas and an overhead extractor fan.
There are wooden fitted blinds or curtains fitted to the windows.
The front door is half glass and half wood stable door than can split so that the bottom is shut and the top open if required. This has full length curtain.
The stairs lead from the middle of the room upstairs to a landing area where there is a panel radiator with a wall mounted thermostatic central heating controller.
Off the landing area are located three bedrooms and a main bathroom.
Bedroom One There is the master bedroom with an oak sleigh king size bed, an integrated wardrobe, pine shelved cupboard and two bedside tables each with a bedside light.
There is a lockable half glazed door leading outside to an external stone flight of stairs with steel handrail guard.
There is a latch on the door for external air.
There are curtains to cover the door.
En-suite bathroom to Bedroom One There is a sink basin with wall mounted mirror in front and a floor mounted toilet with concealed cistern.
Above the toilet are two shelves.
There is a 1 metre wide wall to wall shower unit with glass sliding door that slides half way across to gain access.
The shower has a thermostatically controlled wall mounted shower with a large shower head above.
The bathroom has light from 2 ceiling mounted 50 watt downlights.
It is heated by electric underfloor heating that can be controlled by the controller mounted on the wall just outside of the bathroom.
There is also a heated towel rail in the bathroom that can be controlled by a valve at the base of the unit.
Bedroom Two Double Bed
There is a free standing double wardrobe, tall boy and two bedside tables.
There are two bed side lamps. There is a wooden blind fitted to the one window.
Bedroom Three There are two oak single beds with one bedside table and lamp in the middle.
There is a large double oak wardrobe and oak free standing mirror and small drawer.
There are wooden blinds fitted to the two windows.
Family Bathroom There is a large bath 170cm x 70cm with a curved glass shower screen to one end.
At the screen end is a wall mounted thermostatically controlled shower unit with large shower head and separate hand held shower unit.
There is a pedestal hand basin with mixer tap and a large LED illuminated mirror in front of the basin mounted on the wall and a floor mounted toilet. There is a wall mounted bathroom cabinet with 2 shelves and an externally mounted mirror.
The bathroom has light from a Velux roof window and is heated by electric underfloor heating that can be controlled by the controller mounted on the wall just outside of the bathroom.
There is also a heated towel rail in the bathroom that can be controlled by a valve at the base of the unit.
SHIPPON COTTAGE Downstairs There is a large open plan room which comprises of an entrance area, kitchen area, sitting area and dining area.

This contains a floor mounted WC and floor mounted pedestal hand basin with single hot/cold mixer tap and single wall cupboard units with 2 shelves.
There is a free standing washing machine.
There is a double window with wooden venetian blind and a wall mounted clothes drying unit that can be folded away when not in use.
There is small cupboard underneath the stairs which houses the boiler some cleaning items such as the vacuum cleaner, brush etc.
The entrance area, kitchen and utility flooring is travertine tiles and the dining area and sitting area is oak laminate flooring.
There is underfloor heating throughout the downstairs.
Dining Area:There is an extending dining table with eight chairs.
This can be extended to ten/twelve by an additional leaf (these needed to be requested before your stay) Extra chairs can be provided.
Sitting Area: There are two sofas.
There is one further free standing easy chair and a blanket box that houses the linen for the sofa bed if required There is a chest which houses the 26” Flatscreen LCD TV, Freesat box and dvd on top.

Additional Information Lighting in the cottages is made up of down lights and free standing table lights.
All bed linen is Egyptian Cotton and each bed is supplied with a a feather pillow and a non feather pillow. All duvets are synethic.
There is a fire extinguisher and fire blanket situated in both the kitchen areas.
In the event of a fire the smoke alarms will sound. Please exit the building as swiftly as possible.
We do advise guests to read the fire plan at the start of their stay. This is kept in the Brosterfield folder which is found on the kitchen table when you arrive.
We do no permit smoking in the house but if you must smoke, you may smoke in the garden. Please ask for an ash tray and dispose of cigarette stubs in the rubbish bin when safe to do so.
